All Out of Love - Air Supply.

You'd think it would be Terry Jacks and Seasons in the Sun, given the lyrics.

Don’t make me cry exactly but there are two songs that stir certain emotions for me. Storms by Fleetwood Mac and Famous Blue Raincoat by Leonard Cohen.

As for funeral songs The greatest gig in the sky by Pink Floyd was played at my cousins husband's and I thought it was a particularly powerful piece of music and very apt for an old hippy/rocker.

As my mum breathed her last in her care home with me holding her hand The Good Life by Tony Bennett was playing from the room next door ( I think from a tv advert). She'd always maintained right to the last that she'd had a great life despite a hard upbringing in East London and being a war evacuee as a child. So the title at least was very fitting. Though my tears probably don't fit with the 'no apparent reason' criteria.

Tank Park Salute and My Old Man are both very good shouts.

My pick would be Either Way by The Twang.

My dad had My Way played at his. It's odd but I can cope with hearing that, and the Andy Williams song played at my other brothers funeral. ..but just can't listen to the song for played at Tony's .. I do worry they'll play it on the radio when I am driving.

Yep, unfortunately the older I get the more sentimental I become. Mixed into a vast cauldron of cynicism, maybe my sentimentality that keeps me on the straight and narrow?

A good example of cynicism and sentimentally came only the other night during a certain cup final. For a list of reasons I watched it on my own (no mates being one) and when Bowen scored I refused to believe it. I was convinced VAR would rule it out as offside. If you were unfortunate enough to be listening to Robbie Savage doing commentary you hear him say 'if this one stands ..' like he was expecting it too.

When the ref pointed back at the centre circle I stood in my living room wearing my Thames Ironworks shirt (the same as we buried our old man in) and I booed like a girl! I really lacked the imagination to see how important it all was before the game.

Anything by Matt Monroe reminds me of family funerals as he seemed to be a favourite of my oldies and is always on the final playlist.
On the rare occasion he comes on the radio (Robert Elms likes to play a bit of Matt occasionally) I find myself getting a bit sentimental.
A great voice but I always associate him with death.

Chim I am toying with one of two songs to be played at my funeral just as the coffin goes into the incinerator.

I am.thinking either Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon or Alive by Pearl Jam. I like the idea of people's horror at the line I'm Still Alive being played at thar pivotal moment..

My Old Man - Ian dury

"Wouldn't ever let his governors
Call him 'Billy', he was proud
Personal reasons make a difference
His last boss was allowed"

Not my old man as such but a certain type of gentleman I learnt a lot from and still admire. Hard working, proud and straight as a die.
